The cooler weather, cloudy skies and the faint scent of pine needles is a sure sign that nature’s delights (aka mushrooms) are sprouting all over the Peninsula. As choosing the right ones can be such a challenge, the team at The Kitchen have come up with the perfect foraging experience.

Over the course of three hours, guests are invited to take a guided stroll through some of Red Hill and Main Ridge’s best wild mushroom locations. The walk includes handy tips on how to scout two types of the most easily recognisable mushrooms, as well as how to cut and clean them.

A roadside al fresco lunch is also supplied – with streaky bacon, French butter and a crusty baguette, foragers are given the ultimate masterclass in how to cook their found treats. As sherry is a perfect pairing, BYO hipflasks are also encouraged.

Guided walks are $65 per person, and includes the option to join the crew for a drink or two afterwards. Bookings are essential, get in quick as tours are starting to fill up fast. Mother Nature is especially unpredictable this time of the year, so gumboots and warm jumpers/scarves are also advised.
