Set on 27 acres in the tiny town of Fingal, Boneo Discovery Park is an outdoor adventure park for the whole family to explore. Featuring a 1.5km boardwalk through wild wetlands, an 18-hole mini golf course, hedge maze, giant games, treetop ropes course and rock-climbing wall, a trip to this historic adventure park feels like a trip back in time.

You’ll need to grab a map to work your way around the park, with the main attractions built around the central lake. Head left, and you’ll find an 18-hole miniature golf course set amongst the native Correa trees. The course has been designed for all ages and abilities, with three levels of difficulty depending on your experience. Grab a club, tee off, and get ready to play for bragging rights.

After you’ve aced the mini golf, go straight ahead to find the hedge maze. With a combination of dead-ends and switch-backs and a central viewing tower in the middle, it’s a great way to get your steps up and your blood pumping. There are also smaller mazes for younger children to weave their way through whilst remaining in full view of parents.

Those looking for an ecological experience can continue on a stroll along the tea-tree-lined boardwalk to discover native fauna and flora. The park’s wetlands cover 15 acres of lakes and waterways, which are home to a huge array of indigenous birds and wildlife, from plovers and willy-wag tails to pobblebonk frogs, echidna and wallabies.

At the end of the boardwalk, you’ll find the Games Garden, with a giant chess board, jenga blocks and connect four setup. With plenty of shaded lawn overlooking the games area, you can roll to roll out a picnic rug and tuck into a packed lunch whilst the kids take turns on the vintage carousel.

If you want to get the adrenaline pumping, head right to Adventure Island, where you’ll find a high ropes course, zip line, bungy jumping trampoline and rock-climbing wall operating on weekends. It’s the perfect spot for the kids to burn some energy whilst you watch on with two feet on the ground.

After soaring to new heights, stay right to discover the sand sculpture park. Here, kids can learn about natural history whilst unearthing prehistoric creatures big and small. The wild environment and animatronic dinosaurs will make you feel like you’ve stepped onto the set of Jurassic Park.

Once you’ve worked your way through all of the activities, you can head back to the onsite cafe to refuel with a snack, a coffee, or a glass of local wine overlooking the lake. For those looking to make a day trip of it, the park is a quick five-minute drive from Hawke’s Farm and Gunnamatta Ocean Beach.

Boneo Discovery Park is open daily from 10am-4pm, with rides and jumping castles operating from 11am-4pm on weekends and throughout school holiday periods. For operating times and booking information, head to the website.
